3 simple icebreaker games for video conferences: break the ice and energize your team

Virtual meetings are great, but sometimes they can be a bit boring and formal. To make your online meetings livelier and more fun, we've selected three simple and super effective icebreaker games that are easy to conduct in Zoom or any other video chat room. They're great for teams of 5 to 30 people (and sometimes more!) and require no additional materials - just your team and good spirits.

1.What would you prefer?

A very simple and fun game that is great for warming up the atmosphere. Before the meeting, prepare a list of two-choice questions (you can have more, but at least two). For example: “Which would you rather have - Netflix or Disney Plus?”
During the conference, the presenter asks the question and participants raise one finger if they choose the first option and two if they choose the second. After each question, you can joke around a bit and discuss the choices. Not only is it fun, but it also helps you get to know your coworkers' preferences.

2.Pass the word

This game is a great way to practice paying attention and get everyone involved. Imagine that you have an imaginary ball. The first player says any word and “passes” the ball to the other player, saying his name. That person catches the ball, says their word and passes it on.
For example: “Apple - John”, ‘Banana - Mary’ and so on. The game goes on as long as you want it to. It ends when the ball goes back to the leader and he summarizes the results. The main thing is to make sure everyone participates and pass the baton to those who haven't spoken yet.

3.Where in the world is...?

This game is great for large teams and helps dilute the formality of a video conference. In gallery mode, you see all the participants - for example, 9 people arranged in three rows of three.
The presenter calls the participant's name and the others show where they are on their screen - up, down, left, right or at an angle. The participant smiles or waves his hand to confirm the choice. He or she then names the next player and the game continues. It's a simple and fun way to lighten the mood and add some movement and interaction.
These three icebreaker games are a great tool to make your video conferences lively, interesting and cohesive. Try them out at your next meeting and share in the comments how it went! And if you have your own favorite icebreakers - tell us, we're always interested in learning new ideas.
